BEAMS 1-2-3 BEAM DEFLECTION.

BEAMS 1-2-3 is designed to be used by both engineering students and practicing engineers to design, analyze, and study the reactions of many types of beam-loading configurations. It uses analytical solutions and the principle of superposition to very quickly and accurately determine the reactions (and deflections, etc.) under 60 commonly used beam-loading configurations.

Three types of beams may be examined: simply supported, cantilevered, and fixed ended. The cases covered include 29 statically supported and 31 statically indeterminate (usually the difficult ones). You may calculate and display (or print) all values of the shear, moment, deflection, bending stress, and shearing stress in three ways:

O For design, all maximum values are calculated. O For analysis, all values at any location may be calculated. O For study, all values at equally spaced points may be calculated.

Calculations may be done in any of four units (English, kilo-English, Metric, kilo-Metric). Also, any material may be used, or you may choose from a menu of seven common materials (A-36 steel, cast iron, aluminum-6061, brass, bronze, Douglas fir, structural concrete).

The types of loading conditions include multiple concentrated loads, uniformly distributed loads, and pure moments. Also, spring supports may be analyzed.

Because the calculations are based on analytical equations, the results are obtained very quickly and with very good accuracy. One of the particularly nice features available in BEAMS 1-2-3 is that you are also given a diagram showing the loading conditions and reactions. This is very helpful in visualizing and organizing your results. These diagrams may also be printed if your printer is capable.

BEAMS 1-2-3 is ideal for the practicing engineer who wants to quickly and easily get results, for the student wanting to check homework, for the educator who wishes to develop assignments or demonstrate beam calculations, or for anyone interested in the solution to analytical beam problems.
