EMIS EDITOR and MACHINE INTERFACE for CNC
EMIS is a low cost editor and machine interface system for computerized numerical control. It provides features for both developing CNC programs, as well as communicating with the machine tool.
Features include:
o Text editing and scrolling by single-key commands.
o Direct machine communications without exiting editor.
o Two levels of on-screen assistance.
o Interactive dictionary of CNC codes and terminology.
o Automatic N-code insertion and numbering.
o Program dumping (machine memory to EMIS editor).
Although EMIS is designed to be used with a Bridgeport Series I Milling machine, it is not limited to that configuration. The control program length can be up to 60K. Program fragments may be saved to and loaded from disk files. These fragments may be merged with the current program, making for fast and convenient program construction from frequently used routines. Hardware interfacing is through a RS-232-C serial or standard parallel port. Communication may be directly with the machine tool, or with the control device (e.g., tape reader).
EMIS is open-ended and may be used for other CNC machines by simply creating the appropriate dictionary. A fully annotated Bridgeport library is provided.
The hardware interfacing is handled in detail in the manual and software. The 115-page manual is very well prepared and covers all aspects of both programming and interfacing. Requires a serial/parallel communications port.
