INFORMATION REGARDING DYNACOMP MANUALS ON CDROM
The manual(s) included with this CDROM were originally 8-1/2" by 11" (most common) or 5-1/2" by 8-1/2" (occasionally) printed format. We have scanned in the documentation and put it on CDROM (along with the software) in order to provide the product in a more easily produced (and stored) format. This makes it possible for us to present this software and documentation at an exceptionally low price.
For those who prefer printed manuals, they are readily available (see below).
The documentation on the CDROM is presented in three formats to ensure compatibility with all systems.
BIT MAP (BMP) FORMAT
These are bit map images of individual pages; 300 dot per inch B&W .BMP files. This is a Microsoft Windows format. Any computer running Windows can read these files and print them out one at a time. 300 dpi scan quality is better than the 200 dpi fine mode resolution used in fax transmission.
MICROSOFT WORD DOCUMENT FILES (.DOC)
The second format provided are Microsoft Word .DOC files. To read these you must have Microsoft Word (or a word processor which can read Microsoft Word files). This format is more convenient than individual .BMP files in that you may easily scroll between pages and print the entire manual with just a few keystrokes. The individual pages are .BMP images. A restricted version of Microsoft Word is included on this CDROM.
ADOBE ACROBAT FILES
The third format is Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 (or higher) for Windows. For viewing this you will need Adobe Acrobat. Most Windows machines come with this software in one form or another. Often it is a "lite" version which allows you to view a manual on the screen, but not print it. You will need a full version of Adobe Acrobat to do printing. On this disk you will find a "lite" version of Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0. The individual pages shown are .BMP images.
PRINT QUALITY
For printing, you may use any printer. However, if you use an older dot matrix printer, the text will probably be legible, but not very pleasing. Laser and ink/bubble jet printers are preferred. Note that the print quality will be MUCH better than the screen image. Your laser printer will probably print at the full 300 dpi resolution, but you screen display will be only on the order of 72 dpi, and the print may look ragged at 100% scale. That is because a 300 dpi image is being sampled at 72 dpi, and bad things happen. Try 200% or higher.
OBTAINING PRINTED MANUALS
There should be no need for a printed manual. If you want one, you may print the manual(s) yourself. This may be very time-consuming on a slow printer because the documentation is usually quite extensive. For example, most of our "collection" CDROMs include several hundred pages of documentation; the CDROMs are pretty full.
Alternatively, you may order printed manuals from DYNACOMP. The charge is 10 cents per page, plus $5.95 S/H (U.S. destinations) for the first 100 pages. Add $1.20 additional shipping for each additional 100 pages.
Only complete printed manuals may be ordered, not individual pages. The number of pages is simply the number of .BMP image files associated with that manual.
For example, a 50 page manual (50 .BMP files) would cost $5.00 plus $5.95 S/H, or $10.95, which is pretty reasonable. 150 pages of manuals would cost $15.00 plus $5.95 plus $1.20 S/H, or $22.15.
Only purchasers of the CDROM product may order manuals.
